Reduce your risk - Drink less alcohol

We know it can be hard to drink less – no one wants to seem like the boring one at a party! But did you know that drinking alcohol is linked to 7 different types of cancer? So it’s well worth considering cutting down and drinking within recommended guidelines.

It’s recommended that men and women don’t drink more than 2 to 3 units of alcohol per day. Plus, have at least two alcohol-free days every week. Pregnant women shouldn’t drink any alcohol for the full 9 months of their pregnancy.

Have you thought about trying Dry January or Stoptober? You don’t have to wait for these months, you can set yourself any length of challenge at anytime of the year. If you’re still not sure, why not do it with a friend? Then you won’t be the only one choosing soft drinks instead of booze, and you can plan other fun things to do instead of going out-out.

Try a mocktail, or an alcohol-free drink (you can get beer, cider, gin, vodka – pretty much anything as an alcohol-free version!) Apart from the health benefits of not drinking alcohol, you know what else is great about it? No hangover!

If you’re really struggling, try alternating between soft drinks and alcoholic drinks when you’re out.

If you’re worried that you or someone you care about has a problem with alcohol, help is available. The Drinkaware website has a list of alcohol support services including online chat, helplines, and support groups.
