AAA screening - Why is screening important?

If you have an aneurysm you will not usually notice any symptoms. This means you cannot tell if you have one. You will not feel any pain, and you will probably not notice anything different.

Screening can find aneurysms early, so they can be monitored or treated. This greatly reduces the chances of the aneurysm causing serious problems.

The easiest way to find out if you have an aneurysm is to have an ultrasound scan of your abdomen.

As with all procedures, there is an element of risk involved. You can find more detailed information about the screening programme on GOV.UK.
